Welcome

Welcome to the Population Geography Research Group (PopGRG) website.  PopGRG is one of the research groups of the Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers). We are a network of scholars who are passionate about supporting population geographers and promoting population geography within and beyond Geography.

This site tells you more about our principles, committee, events and how to get involved. Read about our activities in our blog, follow us on X @pgrg_rgsibg, or catch up with our latest videos on our Youtube channel.

Our Principles

Our underlying principles are to;

  • Run and develop activities to promote population geography.
  • Provide a supporting and nurturing environment for population geographers, especially early career researchers.
  • Communicate and engage enthusiastically and proactively within and beyond population geography.
  • Work closely with the RGS-IBG, its Research Groups and collaborators within and beyond the academy.
  • Develop our membership and networks for knowledge exchange.

We seek to do this through;

  • Annual prizes for the best undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in population geography in the UK.
  • An active Committee, which meets monthly to plan and promote activities.
  • Regular communication with our wider membership, via our mailing list, website and social media.
  • Support for the biennial iMigMob conference.
  • Sharing the latest research in population geography via our bimonthly Inspiring Populations seminars.
  • Providing a regular and dedicated informal space for writing via our bimonthly virtual writing retreats.
  • Active engagement with the RGS-IBG annual conference, especially through sponsored sessions.
  • Support for Early Career Researchers, including financial support for conference attendance
